The Euphrates River, a river in Mesopotamia. This river irrigated the land but got out of control.
Uncontrolled Water Supply
- During the spring, rain and melted snow came down from the mountains and flooded the Euphrates and Tigris River
- No one knew when the floods would come
- Farmers' crops would be washed away
- There was either too much or too little water
- The Sumerians began to create irrigation systems to provide water to the fields and levees to block water
- Over time, they dug canals, constructed dams, and stored water in reservoirs
