Religion
One part of the culture in Mesopotamia was religion. The Sumerians tried to please the gods in everyday tasks like growing crops and settling arguments. Religious towers called ziggurats were built to express the Sumerians’ beliefs. It was believed that the gods lived in the ziggurats. On the ziggurats were staircases where the gods could go down to Earth.
Statues also showed Sumerian's religious beliefs. These statues were usually lifelike and detailed. They were typically of people worshiping the gods. The gods were believed to be pleased when people worshiped them.
There were several religious ceremonies that took place in ancient Mesopotamia. Musicians played at these ceremonies. Often, these ceremonies would involve human sacrifice, or the ritual of killing humans to please the gods
