Neo-Babylonian Empire Life
Nebuchadnezzar II worked hard to make his empire similar to Hammurabi. The city's ziggurat was rebuilt. The palace was decorated with gardens. These gardens were called the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. They were planted on rooftops and the top of tall buildings so they hung down. The Neo-Babylonians were skilled in math and astronomy. They created the first sundial, which is a device that tells the time using the sun. The Neo-Babylonians were the ones who discovered that there were 60 minutes in an hour and 7 days in a week.
The Neo-Babylonian Empire lasted only 75 years. They were conquered by the Persians in 539 B.C.E.
