THe Arts
"Arts" refers to forms of expressions like painting, music, and architecture. Many kinds of artists and craftspeople lived in Mesopotamia. Metalworkers made weapons, cups, and other practical items. They also made decorative items, like mirrors and jewelry.
Music was very important. The Sumerians believed that music brought joy to the gods. During temple ceremonies, musicians would play instruments and sing. Love songs were written and used to entertain guests at feasts. Musicians played instruments like drums and pipes. A favorite instrument was the lyre. It was a wooden instrument made of a sound box and strings, similar to a harp. A wooden bar held the strings at the top, and the instrument was decorated with precious stones and carvings.
